Bisher bin ich sehr gut ohne eine 4-rädriges KFZ durchs Leben gekommen. Jedoch ist der öffentliche Nahverkehr in Nord-Amerika bekanntermaßen eine Katastrophe und ich würde für meinen Arbeitsweg die 4-fache Zeit benötigen. Es fährt zwar ein Zug (3-mal am Tag ), dieser fährt jedoch morgens nur stadteinwärts und abends stadtauswärts. Also genau falsch herum für einen Bacon-Belt Worker wie mich. Dazu kommt, dass der Bahnhof in Saint Bruno (wo mein Arbeitsplatz ist) extra 3 km außerhalb der Stadt gebaut wurde und somit auch nur mit dem Auto (oder Fahrrad) zu erreichen ist.
Warum? Weil das ja klar ist.
Es musste also ein Auto her.
Dabei waren folgende Dinge zu bedenken:

Auf gar keinen Fall wollte ich, dass Freunde und Familie sagen:
Du kommst aus Wolfsburg, ist klar, dass du dir einen Volkswagen kaufst.
Wir waren also offen für alle Marken und haben auch verschiedene Autohäuser besucht und dabei so manchen schmierigen Autohändler kennengelernt (“You cannot expect German quality from that Car”).
Nur ein Volkswagen musste es nicht zwangsläufig sein, denn davon habe ich in meinem Leben genug gesehen.
Unsere Anforderungen waren:
- niedriger Benzinverbrauch
- genug Platz für Ski oder Fahrräder
- die Möglichkeit im Auto zu schlafen
- günstig in der Anschaffung
- Steckdose im Kofferraum
- Optional: manuelle Schaltung
- beim Öffnen der Fahrertür gelangt kein Schnee vom Dach auf den Fahrersitz.
Nun ja, nach längerer Recherche konnte jedoch nur der gute alte Golf diese Anforderung erfüllen (bis auf Punkt 7. @VS: Was ist das los? Ich habe jeden Morgen einen nassen Oarsch).
Im VW Autohaus zeigte sich dann ein skurriles Bild. Denn was die Tour de France für den Radfahrer ist und für den Surfer Hawaii, ist Wolfsburg offenbar für den nordamerikanischen VW-Fahrer. Es gibt Autos in einer “Wolfsburg-Edition” und entsprechende Wandbilder. Mit beidem würde man in Deutschland vermutlich einen Großteil der Käufer abschrecken.
Ebenfalls hoch im Kurs sind Wolfsburger Nummernschilder. Da in Quebec ausschließlich am Heck ein Nummernschild befestigt wird, ist an der Front Platz für Blödsinn (Eine entsprechende Galerie ist in Arbeit).

Apropos Nummernschild: Der auf dem Bild zu sehende Aufkleber links oben an der Heckscheibe war für eine Woche unser Nummernschild (wie eine rote Nummer in Deutschland, nur halt nicht zu lesen.)
Nach dem Autokauf (der unzeitgemäß mit einen Scheck durchzuführen ist), wollten wir nach Hause fahren. Nach ca. 10 gefahrenen Kilometern ging jedoch plötzlich die Motorwarnleuchte an.
Scheiße! Das muss die bekannte Volkswagenqualität sein.
Nagut, dann halt wieder zurück zum Händler, wo ein kaputter Sensor ausgetauscht wurde.
Und ja, wir haben auch schon im Auto übernachtet und zwar auf einem Campingplatz in den USA, wo sich unsere Platznachbarn (Quebecer Dorfjungend) bereits im Vorfeld entschuldigt haben, das sie etwas laut sind. Um 21 Uhr jedoch lagen alle in ihren Zelten. Nichts mehr los mit der Jugend (Stimmung wie beim Rock im Park Festival).
